. 001 . this is an independent and selective writing blog for eleazar of the denali coven, from the twilight saga. eleazar is largely removed from novel canon and will primarily be treated as an original character, based off my own headcanons and developed lore with a focus on plotted relationships and worldbuilding.. 002 . this blog is locked into using beta editor. i am still getting used to it so formatting will be limited to simple small text and an icon. activity here will likely be low and stress free. replies will likely run on a queue.. 003 . my inbox is always open! it doesn't matter how long it's been since i reblogged a meme, if you want to send one in, send one in! it’s the easiest way to get an interaction started. plotting can come after.

OVERVIEW: at his core, eleazar is first and foremost gentle under most circumstances. he is vigilant, and he strives to protect his loved ones above all else. he is scholarly, intellectual, analytical, observant, sapient, and contemplative. his compassion is boundless and he is very empathetic.he believes that the greater good is achieved through adherence to the law, hence his former position with the volturi guard, and tended to look down upon those who flout it; unless the laws are tyrannical, that is. in line with this thinking, eleazar is rebellious when he sees fit and vengeful when he is betrayed. he does not like being decieved or to have his empathy taken advantage of.due to all of his suffering in his second life, he has a tendency toward pessimism in his view of himself ( conversely, he elevates the people around him to heights they might not be deserving of ), but he can also be very confident in situations in which he knows he can excel.he generally portrays himself as stoic, cool headed, kind, dignified and genteel, and he has retained several outdated mannerisms from his human life, which can be bizarre or charming.
POWER IDENTIFICATION: eleazar is able to detect and specifically identify power in both vampires and humans, although his detection is considerably weaker in human brains because most power in the human mind is latent and ambiguous, if it exists at all. it is a sixth sense, akin to hearing a sound or smelling a scent; as such, fastidious concentration on his part makes a subject easier to read. his gift does not require physical touch, he only needs to be in proximity. his gift has grown stronger with frequent use as a volturi guard, and his range has extended to an approximate one mile diameter. in addition to sensing power, he senses a gift’s strengths, its weaknesses, and its potential to strengthen over time.
30 NOVEMBER 1451: in the early hours of november 30th, 1451, young eleazar matías carillo was born to lord agustín rodríguez carillo and lady marga martínez botella in the northern crown of castile, in what would be part of modern day basque country. he would be the couple’s second child and one of two middle children: younger brother to francisco by five years and older brother to sisters, alba and angeles, within the next seven.1451 - 1479: eleazar had a relatively easy childhood. as the second son, it was assumed his elder brother would inherit the lordship after their father died, so while he was busy learning under their fathers tutelage, eleazar was generally left to his own devices. he busied himself with caring for his mother and sisters and, through them, realized he had a great interest in the human condition. he often enjoyed people watching and liked to make up stories about the people he saw: what their lives were, their strengths and weaknesses.4 DECEMBER 1479: eleazar is 33 when tragedy strikes not once, but twice. he is in madrid when he learns of his elder brother’s death. it is as sudden as it is unexpected, and with his family’s inheritance suddenly thrust upon him, eleazar to quick to plans to return. unfortunately, whilst traveling from madrid back to his family home, he is attacked on the road by what he knows now as a starving vampire. his caravan is slaughtered one by one and for better or worse, eleazar clings to life long enough for the venom to spread. due to his gentle nature he did not take to the transformation well. he felt no purpose could be sought out in this new and strange life he lived until he encountered demetri and felix on a job in 1502 AD.4 DECEMBER 1479: since his transformation, eleazar became a nocturnal creature. lonely and feeling forsaken by god, he lived on the fringes of society for the next decade until he met two strangers dressed in ashen cloaks. he felt strangely drawn to one of them and after accurately describing the trackers own ability, eleazar was brought to volterra to meet the one called aro. after proving himself once more, he was invited to stay as part of their coven.1489 - 1873: eleazar would proudly live with the volturi for the next ~400 years. his job amongst the guard was as an advisor than a fighter; when the guard would go up against an opposing, rule breaking coven, it was eleazar's job to detect if any of those members had extra gifts ( to sense what it was, their strengths, their weaknesses ) and then pass that strategic knowledge on to aro. when the coven was interested in active recruitment, he would also be sent around the world to look for any human or vampire with useful talents to potentially add to the coven. a gentle person by nature, eleazar wasn't entirely happy with their methods of dealing justice, but he felt he was serving the greater good by working with those who would uphold the law.1873 - 1880: after several centuries of service, it is during a scouting mission that eleazar came across a young vampire woman named carmen. he is immediately fascinated by her beauty and compassion for life despite their condition, and the two bond over their similar natures. by the time eleazar had to return to volterra, he decided to bring carmen with him. however, as carmen had no talent to interest the volturi, she was not invited to join; likewise, she had no desire to join a coven that would reject her for such an insignifcant reason. for several years, eleazar tried to find balance between his love life and his duties by living with carmen while continuing to work for the volturi but he oft felt strain between his two worlds. he could sense carmen was becoming increasingly troubled by the violence of his everyday life so eventually, during a period of time when he knew the guard wasn't actively recruiting, eleazar asked for aro's permission to leave the coven. aro wasn't happy with the idea of losing eleazar but he did not want to destroy a talent that he had no backup for so he nonetheless gave the two his blessing, believing that eleazar would willingly return to the guard if he ever needed him to. eleazar thanked him and departed italy with carmen soon after.1903: eleazar and carmen traveled nomadically for a while, looking for a more compassionate lifestyle. while drifting through southern alaska, they are suprised to find a coven of golden-eyed women with a semi-permenant residence in the nearby denali borough. the pair are immediately taken by their commitment to a non-violent "vegetarian" diet. sensing a group like-minded individuals, when the leader of the coven invited them to stay and try out the lifestyle for themselves, the spaniards graciously accepted. it didn't take long for everyone to realize they enjoyed each other's company so much that they made the situation permanent.

MODERN: this is eleazar's main verse and by default, it takes place after the events of breaking dawn. following their stand off with the volturi, eleazar and the rest of the denali coven have returned to their home in alaska. eleazar, like the rest, are in mourning for their fallen sister, however, they also welcome a new vampire into their coven proving that, no matter what, life goes on.
VOLTURI: this verse follows the period of eleazar's life spent as a member of the volturi coven, aka his life prior to meeting carmen and discovering vegetarianism. being the compassionate person that he is, eleazar was never a warrior. instead, it was his job to scout cities around the world. he would be sent out in search of any vampire or human who's gifted ability might help aid the volturi and uphold their laws and report his findings back to aro.
